Thanksgiving
"Let us remember that, as much has been given us, much will be expected from us, and that true homage comes from the heart as well as from the lips, and shows itself in deeds."  ~Theodore Roosevelt

This Thanksgiving season give thanks and give back! The Sope Creek Service Council and the PTA Community Outreach Committee invite you to do just that by participating in the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive the week of November 9-13th.

Throughout the year, Sope Creek provides support by supplying some basic needs such as school supplies and snacks to the students of our sister school, Powers Ferry Elementary.  The Thanksgiving Food Drive provides essential items for a traditional Thanksgiving meal for many families in need at this school. Please help us support our fellow community members by donating canned or boxed foods and any loose change that you can spare.  The change will be used to provide gift cards to our own Sope Creek families in need.  So rummage through those purses and coat pockets for that loose change!  It is important to stress that we always fill the needs of our Sope Creek families first before passing anything on to other members of the community.  Just a few of the many items needed are canned vegetables (green beans, peas, yams, refried beans, black beans, corn, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, carrots, squash, greens, etc.), boxed potatoes and rice (mashed, scalloped, rice, boxes or bags), boxed pasta mixes (macaroni, Mac-n-Cheese), boxed or bagged stuffing mixes (cornbread, herb, plain, bags/boxes), bags of flour, cornmeal, biscuit mixes (wheat, All-Purpose, white), boxes of baking goods (cake mixes, brownies, pie makings, corn bread), cans of gravy (turkey, chicken), soup (including cream of mushroom or chicken), cans of fruit (pumpkin, apple, cranberry, cranberry sauce, pineapple, applesauce, etc.), french fried onion strings,  and much, much more.

The 4th and 5th grade Service Council will be coming to the student’s classrooms each morning to collect the donations.  Classes that collect more than 100 items will be placed into a drawing to win lunch with the Principal.  There will also be volunteers just outside the cafeteria during lunch all week for students to donate their change.  As always, thank you for your continued support.  Be proud that our school community is raising GREAT citizens, and remember, the best place to find a helping hand is at the end of your arm!
